Business objectives

As a privately owned, $30 million-plus business importing and distributing medical supplies, Obex Medical had reached a point where it needed to ensure all systems were in place for continued growth, and to manage change. Key to this was linking its business strategy to its development plans.

The company needed to find a way to get all employees working together towards common goals.

Our solution

We have worked with Obex since 2010 as a consultant on a number of organisational development initiatives.

Our first assignment was to hold a one-day workshop with the eight-strong senior management team. The CEO had a big strategic vision for the company. We had to help the senior managers find a way of linking the vision to their everyday operations, and to the development needs of their staff.

The stage was set at this workshop for a range of other projects to support the implementation of the strategy. These included:

  • senior leadership team development

  • leadership coaching and 360 feedback
  • performance review aligned to the business strategy
  • learning strategy with a focus on 70:20:10 approaches

The results

Creating clear pathways to embed the strategy and vision into operational plans enabled Obex Medical to manage their growth and develop their people to implement their strategies.

Transferring organisational development processes and tools to the HR team means that the HR function is providing the appropriate support and leadership to all staff during their career at Obex, and can position the organisation to manage ongoing change effectively.

Building the skills of the senior leadership team and constantly challenging their thinking has strengthened the resolve and resilience of Obex leaders.
