What’s on tonight?

Just a few years ago, there were only three TV channels to watch and remote controllers were not standard accessories when you purchased a TV.  Most households had one TV taking pride of place in the living room.

Back then, it was pretty common for people to continue watching the same channel all night, rather than getting off the couch, changing channels and checking out the programmes on the two alternatives.

The increase in the number of TVs in a house, the number of TV channels and the remote controllers that came with the TVs encouraged channel surfing.

These innovations turned TV watching into a bit more of a purposeful act. People were still glued to their TVs, but at least they were actively choosing which programmes to watch.

On-demand TV and the internet multiplies the number of choices by a massive factor.

So here’s the question that now needs to be considered: The next thing you read, the next thing you watch–how will you decide that it is next?

At home and at work, what deliberate decisions are you making everyday about what you’re learning, or connecting with, or the entertainment you’re enjoying?

We don’t have unlimited time. The most successful and the least successful person each have 24 hours a day. It seems that being intentional about how we spend our precious time will foster our growth and success…
